The Center for Belarusian Language and Culture at Azerbaijan University of Languages

The Center for Belarusian Language and Culture at the Azerbaijan University of Languages was established on May 15, 2024, with the aim of promoting the Belarusian language, traditions, and cultural values, fostering intercultural ties, and strengthening friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus.

Within the framework of a bilateral cooperation and partnership agreement signed between the Azerbaijan University of Languages and the Minsk State Linguistic University, both parties agreed to expand academic exchange, organize joint scientific research, and conduct cultural events that contribute to the advancement of philology, translation studies, and intercultural communication. The cooperation is intended to develop the professional competencies of students and faculty members, as well as to create new opportunities for academic and educational initiatives.

Key Areas of Activity

Research Activities

The Center aims to actively promote scientific cooperation by creating a space for academic dialogue and knowledge exchange among students, faculty, and researchers. Regular scientific seminars, conferences, and roundtable discussions involving experts and scholars from Belarus contribute to an in-depth exploration of the unique cultural, historical, and linguistic aspects of both countries and support the development of joint research and educational projects. The Center also offers opportunities for publishing academic papers in the theoretical journal Vestnik MGLU (Herald of MSLU).

Educational Activities

The Center’s educational mission encompasses a broad range of initiatives aimed at promoting the study and dissemination of the Belarusian language and culture. Regularly organized events—such as lectures, exhibitions, workshops, and film screenings—introduce students and the wider public to Belarusian traditions, art, and history, thereby fostering an inclusive, engaging, and friendly environment for deepening cultural knowledge. The use of interactive formats, including project-based activities, quizzes, and competitions, enhances the learning experience and allows students to gain a more profound understanding of Belarus’s cultural heritage.

Informational Activities

The Center’s informational initiatives are focused on creating accessible and appealing content about the Belarusian language and culture. These efforts play a key role in engaging students, faculty, and the broader community, while promoting a deeper appreciation of Belarus’s rich cultural diversity and heritage.

The Center actively collaborates with the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which expands the scope of its educational and cultural activities. In addition, the Center seeks to establish partnerships with Belarusian educational, scientific, and cultural institutions and maintain cooperation with relevant universities and organizations in Belarus under formal agreements.

It is noteworthy that in September 2023, the Center for Azerbaijani Language and Culture was inaugurated at the Minsk State Linguistic University as a result of a joint initiative by the Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, Academician Kamal Abdullayev, and the Rector of Minsk State Linguistic University, Professor Natallia Lapteva, with the active involvement of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Belarus.

Thus, the Center for Belarusian Language and Culture at AUL plays a vital role in strengthening cultural and academic ties between Azerbaijan and Belarus. We warmly invite you to join us and explore the richness of Belarusian culture!
