The Spanish Language Centre was opened on 7 May 2012 at the initiative of Azerbaijan University of Languages and the Embassy of Spain to Turkey. The activities of the Centre are mainly aimed to teach the Spanish language and culture to the students who are being specialized in Spanish, to support their scientific research, to provide the students with the library, audio and video equipment, to facilitate their access to the international sphere, assist the training of high quality specialists to be able to play a part in the development of the relations between Spain, the Spanish-speaking Latin American countries and Azerbaijan. The students, who are being trained as Spanish translators, get closely familiarized with the history, culture, literature of Spain along with learning Spanish. There is a sufficient number of resources in the Centre to conduct research in this line, and the students make use of them. Since, the Centre has a rich library holding about 690 book resources including the books and journals in Spanish, Azerbaijani and Russian and encompassing quite comprehensive information. The books in the library are grouped according to the categories of culture, history, politics, literature, religion and language. Any person can use the library after registration.

In the period of its activities the Centre has organized a number of events. A Spanish  teacher regularly organizes “Club de Conversación” – the Conversation Club. The official representatives of the Spanish-speaking countries, embassies to Azerbaijan regularly take an active part in the events held in the Centre and closely cooperate with the Faculty.
