University governing body’s student representation initiative: Student Activities in ADU's "One-Day Caliph" Project

On December 13, students of Azerbaijan University of Languages (ADU) began performing their duties within the framework of the "One-Day Caliph" project. ADU students were given the opportunity to manage 39 positions for one day.

The "One-Day Caliph" project has been organized at the university since 2017. As part of the project, caliphs, who are elected by voting, manage the university’s leadership structures for one day. During this time, students, master's students, and doctoral students take on the roles of rector, vice-rectors, deans, and heads of centers and departments. They make decisions regarding the educational process and administrative matters, as well as implement various innovations throughout the day. This initiative also strengthens the university governing body’s student representations, allowing students to actively engage in institutional decision-making processes.

The decisions made by students holding leadership positions on this day have full legal force. According to the decision of Rector, academic Kamal Abdulla, on the "One-Day Caliph" student self-government day, students, master's students, and doctoral students who hold the respective positions from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM also receive the salary for the position they are fulfilling.
