The Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology at the Faculty of Philology of ASU was established on 08.08.2017 by order No. 1/290. The total number of members of the department was 21 people. Among them, 1 person was a doctor of sciences, 5 people had a degree in philology, 4 people had a doctorate in pedagogy, 8 people were associate professors, 5 people were senior teachers, and 8 people were teachers.
Currently, 1 member of the department holds a doctorate degree in history, 8 in philology, 5 in pedagogy, and 11 are associate professors, 13 are head teachers, and 9 are teachers. Two of the laboratory assistants are 0.5-time, two are full-time. The head of the department is Sevinj Huseynova, associate professor. The total number of members of the department is 37.
The main goal of the department is to assist teachers in completing scientific-research and scientific-methodical works related to teaching foreign languages (English, German and French), and to provide them with methodological recommendations for organizing foreign language classes with innovative methods and methods in modern times.
The main tasks of the department are as follows:
- conducting practical, seminar and other types of lessons provided in the curricula for all forms of education in accordance with the requirements of the modern education system at a high scientific-theoretical level;
- supervision of graduation works (projects), pedagogical experience, performance of free work by students;
- development and updating of teaching programs, textbooks and teaching aids for the subjects taught in the department and submission for approval accordingly;
- supervision of master's studies;
- discussing and giving opinions on the dissertations of scientific-pedagogical and scientific personnel, department employees and other applicants (doctoral students and dissertation candidates);
- discussion of completed scientific-research and scientific-methodical works, their use in lessons;
- preparation and implementation of individual plans of teaching, scientific-methodical and other work of department employees;
- organization of relations with various enterprises and organizations for the purpose of studying the advanced work experience of individual departments and teaching staff of higher schools of the republic and foreign countries, spreading that experience;
- providing scientific-methodical assistance to new and young teachers in gathering pedagogical experience;
- preparation of measures, methodical guidance and instructions, visual aids for the use of modern technical means in the educational process;
- organization of educational work among students.
The main purpose of the subjects taught by the teachers of the department is to impart theoretical and practical knowledge to the students, to teach effective ways of applying the knowledge gained during the research conducted in the process of teaching foreign languages. The subjects taught by the foreign language teaching methodology (FF) department are considered the main subjects at both undergraduate and graduate levels of higher education institutions and are included in the curriculum as special subjects.
