GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS UNDER THE FACULTY OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND REGIONAL STUDIES
The departament of International Relations was founded in 2001. The first head of the Department was prof. Sabir Dashdamirov. Later on prof. Jala Garibova, prof. Musa Gasimli and Associate professor, PhD Samir Hamidov consecutively headed the departament. Prof. Dr. Aida Yusifzade leads the departament since 2017. Dr. Yusifzade was elected the head of the departament for the second term on July 7, 2022.
As one of the specialty departments that conducts teaching process in the International Relations and Regional Studies Faculty the Department of International Relations carries out great responsibility.
Forty one employees work in the International Relations Department at the moment. Of them, three are professors, ten associate professors, four senior teachers and the rest are teachers, alongside two departament assistants. Three doctors of sciences and fifteen PhDs work in the department. Currently, five doctoral and 4 dissertation students of PhD programs and two more scholars of doctor of sciences programs work on various actual problems of international relations.
Alongside full time teachers, experts invited from the Administration of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Ministry of Taxes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Institite of Manuscripts, ADA University work in the departament on a part-time or hourly basis. Moreover, several teachers of the departament work in other signficant positions alongside teaching.
The activity of the teachers is evaluated according to various criteria in the International Relations departament. Their rating is defined in accordance with the significance of their published scientific works, initiatives, work discipline and other factors.
Throughout 21 years of Department’s operation there have been compiled and published numerious programs, scientific-methodical materials, monographies, textbooks and teaching aids for undargraduate and graduate levels. In the recent years employees of the departament have publised a number of monographies, textbooks and teaching aids, including the following: prof. Samir Hamidov et al "International Security" (2016), "International organisations" (2016), "Theory of International relations"(2016), Ali Mustafayev "Legal system of France" (2010), Nasib Nasibli "Metodology of research in Social sciences" (2015), prof. Rafiq Abbasov "Ilham Aliyev – the modern follower of ancient peoples’ friendship" (2013) monography, Associate prof. Matanat Asgarova “Constitutional Acts and legal norms of Great Britain” (English Law) (2015) teaching
aid, Associate prof. Mehriban Babakhanova “Legal system of Argentina” (2020) teaching aid, Associate prof. Namig Asadov “Fundamentals and evaluation of international relations” (2017), “People’s Republic of Azerbaijan” (co-author Assoc. prof. E.Gasımov) (2018) teaching aids. The teachers of the Department have also compiled teaching aids for all the courses offered in the bachelors and masters levels:

Yusifzade and the senior teacher of the Department F. Gulamirli co-authored doctoral admission program for international relations specialty (2022).
The teachers of the departament currently work on the textbooks “Modern Diplomacy” and “History of International Relations”.
In the last five years, several department associates defended their doctoral dissertations on the following topics: Samira Imanova "Romania-Azerbaijan relations (1991-2011)", Emil Gasimov "Relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with Western European countries (in the field of science, education and culture)", Mehriban Babakhanova " The institute of parliamentary control in the Republic of Azerbaijan and Scandinavian countries" (the case of Norway)", Aytan Ramazanova "Security problems of the South Caucasus: geopolitical interests of the global and regional actors".
More than 60 master's dissertations were defended in the department during the corresponding period of time. Also, as of 2022, teaching is conducted in English, alongside Russian and Azerbaijani languages at the Department of International Relations.
