On March 2, the Azerbaijan State University of Languages (AUL) hosted a performance “Play with Life”, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Baku Children’s Theater on the initiative of the State Commission for the Prevention of Drug Trafficking and Drug Addiction.

Sarraf Huseynov, the Vice-rector for Student Affairs, expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and employees of the Baku Children’s Theater for the performance.  He emphasized the importance of the fight against drug addiction and AIDS, one of the biggest problems facing society, and highlighted the important role of this spectacle in educating students and in making more decisive steps in the fight against this tragedy.

Farid Gurbanzadeh, senior adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports said that fighting drug addiction and illnesses it causes is not an easy task. He said that drug addiction damaging the moral and ethical values of human society, was rapidly spreading and necessary measures were taken to prevent this.

Deputy Head of the State Committee on Combating Drug Addiction and Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vasif Guliyev said that drug addiction has a negative impact on socio-economic development and resulted in crime increase. He also said he was sure that the performance would be a positive impetus for students to fight “white deaths”.

Afterwards, Intigam Soltan, who directed “Play with Life”, noted that drug addiction is a contagious disease and is a terrible way to AIDS: “The number of drug addicts in Azerbaijan is much higher than the official statistics, and this disease, which is very difficult, continues to spread. Currently, drug trafficking is the most profitable industry in the world after weapons and oil sales. We have made this performance so that the younger generation can perceive these tragedies that it has committed. I hope you will benefit from this performance dedicated to the fight against drug addiction”.

It should be noted that the play “Play with Life” will be shown in 8 universities in March.
