Opening Ceremony of “Heavenly Religions” History of Israel at Azerbaijan University of Languages

On May 23, 2019, there was the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Heavenly Religions”. It  reflects the history of Israel as a state. The exhibition was held at Azerbaijan University of Languages in the frames of the workshop “Religions and Multicultural approach” in Azerbaijan. Academician Kamal Abdulla, rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, said that he was glad to see Dan Stav Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan who was taking in the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Rector Kamal Abdulla said that exhibits displayed at the exhibition were sent by Ravin Kupper, collaborator of Simon Vizental Centre in Los Angeles. Kamal Abdulla added that the exhibition will be held in other teaching buildings of the University as well. It will be recommended to other universities of the Republic of Azerbaijan to demonstrate the exhibits of the exhibition, too. The rector of the University pointed out that the organization of the exhibition is a demonstration of a great love to the people of Israel. Dan Stav, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan, expressed his satisfaction for being at Azerbaijan University of Languages. He thanked Kamal Abdulla, rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, for the propagation of the customs and traditions of Israel, for remembering its history, especially the Holocaust tragedy. Dan Stav, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan, said that the Republic of Azerbaijan also suffered from great losses for freedom and he highly appreciated the attitude of Azerbaijan University of Languages to the tragedy of the Jews. Dan Stav said that he was glad that the exhibition displayed the specific moments inherent to Israel and gave comprehensive information about his country.

Then they watched the exhibits. İrina Kunina, head of the Multiculturalism Research Laboratory, gave information about exhibits reflecting information on the ancient Jewish culture and state. The exhibition will continue a week. It should be noted that Rəvan Həsənov, executive director of the International Baku Multiculturalism Centre,  gave information about the exhibition and answered the questions of students in the frames of the workshop “Religions and Multicultural approach in Azerbaijan”, which lasted two days. At the workshop Nahid Məmmədov, head of the Department of Expertise of the Religious Studies of the State Committee on Religious Associations, Əli Fərhadov, research fellow of the Multiculturalism Research Laboratory of Azerbaijan University of Languages, and Günay Səfərova, collaborator of the Centre of Israel and the Middle East, spoke on the topics “A Look at the History of Religions”, “Islam in Azerbaijan at the beginning of XIX-XX centuries”and “Judaism in Azerbaijan”. The workshop was held by the organization of the International Baku Multiculturalism Centre, the Multiculturalism Research Laboratory, the Centre of Israel and the Middle East, Research Organization of Students of Azerbaijan University of Languages.
