Opera “Leyli and Məcnun” has been Staged by the Students of Azerbaijan University of Languages

On 16 May, the opera of unforgettable composer Üzeyir Hacibəyli was staged on the motives of poem of the great Azerbaijani poet Məhəmməd Füzuli “Leyli and Məcnun” at Azerbaijan University of Languages.

Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages academician Kamal Abdulla noted that the performance was a success: “I would have thought that the actors were the soloists of Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theatre if it was not declared that the performers were the students of Azerbaijan University of Languages. It was an extremely refined, sincere performance”.

The student of the Faculty of Translation the Caliph rector Salman Quliyev was the art director of the performance and its director.

The students of the Faculty of Education Aysel (Leyli) and Murad Əliyev (Məcnun) played the leading roles. The student of the Faculty of Translation Salman Quliyev performed the part of Ibn Səlam; the student of the Faculty of Education Ramilə Musazadə performed the part of Leyli’s mother.

It should be noted that, the first performance of the opera “Leyli and Məcnun” of Üzeyir Hacibəyov took place on January 25, 1908. It laid the foundation of the opera genre in the Muslim Orient in the history of the musical cultural of Azerbaijan.
