On March 6, 2019, Shrovetide Holiday was celebrated at Azerbaijan University of Languages. This holiday glorifies seeing of winter and seeing in spring. The celebrations were organized by the Research Laboratory of the Centre of the Russian Studies. The celebrations were attended by the administration and the staff of the University, Sergey Leonidovich Stepanov and Igor Petrovich Yeronin, advisors of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Azerbaijan, Aleksandr Ilyich Kalamin, assistant of the chief of the Russian Information Cultural Centre in Baku, Lyubov Timofeyevna Yakunina, chairwoman of the Association of the Russian-Languaged Educational Institutions, deputy-chairwoman of the Russian Community in Azerbaijan. Opening the holiday celebration academician Kamal Abdulla, rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, greeted the guests and stressed particularly the celebration of such events, which exert great influence the strengthening of the relations in the humanitarian-cultural sphere between Russia and Azerbaijan. Speaking in the celebration Professor Məmməd Əliyev, chief of the Research Laboratory of the Centre of the Russian Studies, said that he was pleased to greet the guests on the Shrovetide Holiday, which was held at the University for the second time. He noted that the Research Laboratory of the Centre of the Russian Studies has made its significant contributions to the development of cooperation among the Russian and Azerbaijani higher educational institutions and research  organizations. Then advisor of the Federation of th Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan Sergey Leonidovich Stepanov spoke in the celebration and appreciated the role ofthe Research Laboratory of the Centre of the Russian Studies as a platform of mutual relations between the educational institutions and reseach organizations of Russia and Azerbaijan. Advisors of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Azerbaijan Aleksandr Ilyich Kalamin noted the significance of the cooperation between Russian Information Cultural Centre in Baku and the Research Laboratory of the Centre of the Russian Studies, as well as among the young generation  and the students of Azerbaijan University of Languages and the Russian youth. Lyubov Timofeyevna Yakunina, chairwoman of the Association of the Russian-Languaged Educational Institutions, deputy-chairwoman of the Russian Community in Azerbaijan, thanked the organizers of the celebration of the Shrovetide Holiday and supported the initiative of the students of Azerbaijan University of Languages to take part in the traditional “Pushkiniada”  projects  of the Russian Information Cultural Centre in Baku to be held in the July of 2019. The holiday celebrations ended with cultural program prepared by the students of “the International Relations and Management” and the demonstration of the traditional sweets of the Shrovetide Holiday.
