The teaching staff and students of Azerbaijan University of Languages held a meeting with Anar, People’s Poet, and chairman of the Union of Writers of Azerbaijan.

Rector Kamal Abdulla opened the meeting and shared his views concerning Anar and said that the latter stood in the guard of the literature of Azerbaijan for many years. “The works of Anar is not only for Azerbaijan, but for the whole world, for the Turkic peoples, for the mankind. With his pen Anar continues a very meaningful and important line. This line derives from our classical writers and poets. Anar himself has turned into a line, an outstanding representative of that line. Those who came to the literature of Azerbaijan can be represented as the followers of the line of Anar. If we revive the scene of the literature of Azerbaijan, the creative activity of Anar forms a great spiritual space of that literature. Because of this, I think that Anar is a very irreplaceable literary-cultural figure for Azerbaijan, his works are read with great love and tribute not only here, but also in the foreign countries”

The rector said that he had personally witnessed the love and interest of the readers and students in a number of countries in Anar. He shared his memories with the participants. He mentioned this acquaintance with the creative activity of Anar and the history of his acquaintance with him and thanked the writer for coming to the University for taking into account the students’ request to come to meet them.

Anar began his speech by thanking the students and the adminstration of the University for inviting him to come and meet them: “Today it is very pleasant to come and meet the staff and students of the University, which is headed by such a writer and rector as Kamal Abdulla. For many years his writings about my crative activity and mine about him have been published in the current press. Kamal Abdulla is a man  who was respected and estimated where he was and worked. He is one of our man-of-letters and scholars who has his own place in the literature and science of Azerbaijan. He has passed the tests of many years”.

The People’s Writer said that  he was always pleased with the meetings with the youth. “It is very pleasing to be in dialogue with the youth. In the past such meetings were held very often, now it has relatively reduced. But I am glad that Azerbaijan University of Languages returns to this tradition. I have been here as a guest in the meetings several times”.

In his speech Anar conveyed a gladdenning news to students: “To day President Ilham Aliyev met the creative intelligentsia, listened to the account reports and proposals. I also took part in that reception and spoke of several proposals, to which he listened attentively and took into consideration many of them. A proposal of mine was admitted, which I want to share it with you. I said that there was not a statue of the writer Cəlil Məmmədqulu-zade. This year is his 150 jubilee. Mr. President met my proposal with great satisfaction and said that very soon a statue to Cəlil Məmmədqulu-zade will be erected in Baku. It gladdens me very much, because I think of him as my teacher, and I think that he is the teacher not of mine and our generation, but of the generation which will follow”.

Then the meeting was continued with questions and answers. At the end the People’s Writer Anar gave comprehensive answers to the students concerning literature, publications, his own works and creative activity.
