Ambassador of the South Korea to the Republic of Azerbaijan Visited Azerbaijan University of Languages

On January 22, 2019, rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages Academician Kamal Abdulla met Kim Tong-op, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Korean Republic to Azerbaijan.

Welcoming the guest the rector said that he was pleased to see him at the University. Mentioning the fact that approximately 20 centres of language and culture function at the University Kamal Abdulla spoke about the activities of the Korean Centre. The rector said that 54 students learn Korean and this number will grow in future.

The rector said that the students have great interest, potentials and willingness to learn the Korean language, culture and history. He said that he hoped to see the same reaction towards the Azerbaijani language in Korea. By stating the fact that 25 years have passed since the foundation of the Centre of the Korean Culture in Azerbaijan University of Languages, he emphasized the importance of celebration of this anniversary as the ceremony devoted to the founders of the Ural-Altaic theory.

Academician Kamal Abdulla expressed his confidence that the relations between the Embassy and the University, which dates back to the old times, will expand and the common achievements will be multiplied. The rector noted that the foundation of the Centre of the Azerbaijani Language and Culture in Korea will be a medium for the better achievement of the future goals and for the expansion of relations between the two countries.

The Korean ambassador expressed his gratitude for the sincere reception. He spoke about the importance of meeting the administration of the University for discussing the issues concerning the youth who play an important role in improving the mutual relations. He said that he was pleased to visit the University and declared that the relations with Azerbaijan University of Languages have a special importance for Korea. He shared the opinion of the rector and expressed his assurance that the students who learn the Korean language in Azerbaijan University of Languages will greatly contribute to the improvement of future cooperation. Kim Tong-op said that he was interested in the organization of joint events and projects. He also noted that a Korean corner will be opened established in Azerbaijan University of Languages.

Professor Afgan Abdullayev, vice rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages on academic issues, noted the statistic information about the university and spoke about the direction of the future activities.

The two parties discussed the ideas of propagating the Korean and Azerbaijani languages, as well as different issues concerning joint projects, exchange of teachers and students, scholarship programs and the future perspectives.
