An Event Dedicated to the Day of Solidarity at Azerbaijan University of Languages

There was held an event at Azerbaijan University of Languages dedicated to the 31st of December, the Day of Solidarity of the Azerbaijanis of the World, on the initiative of the Faculty of International Relations and Management.

Opening the ceremony Associate-professor Ibrahim Kazimbeyli, dean of the Faculty of International Relations and Management, spoke about the history of the Day of Solidarity. He noted that in 1989 there was an attempt for the integrity of the Azerbaijani people, which were separated from each other many years ago. It was a border march on both banks of the River Araks and demonstrated to the world that it was a divided nation and aspired for unison. They destroyed the poles and cut the barbed wires on both sides of the river, stood there day and night sounding slogans for the unison of a great nation. He mentioned that taking into consideration the importance of creating the unity of the Azerbaijanis living in the whole world Heydar Aliyev, chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, on December 16, 1991, declared the 31st of December the Day of Solidarity of all the Azerbaijanis of the World, a symbolic date for the Azerbaijanis to unite throughout the world.

Associate-professor Sevdagul Aliyeva, head of the Chair of Regional Studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages, spoke about the history of the formation of diasporas of the Azerbaijanis throughout the world. Speaking about the Association of the Azerbaijani Culture, the Azerbaijani Society in the United States, the Turan Congress and the other organizations created by the Azerbaijanis, she noted that the Solidarity Day of the World Azerbaijanis is celebrated in more than 70 countries around the world, and it has become the most important holiday for the Azerbaijani diaspora.

Aygun Hasanova, teacher of the Chair of the Caucasian Studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages, spoke about the congresses and conferences of the Azerbaijanis of the world. She remembered the First Congress of the World Azerbaijanis, which was held in 2001 on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev, national leader and founder of independent Azerbaijan. He noted that the congresses and conferences play an important role in the consolidation and activation of the world Azerbaijanis.

Associate-professor of the Chair of Philosophy and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University of Languages Adalat Abdiyeva talked about the prominent figures of the Azerbaijani culture figures in the world. She noted that Azerbaijan is rich not only in its history, but also in its culture. She mentioned the names of Muslim Magomayev, Tahir Salahov, Togrul Narimanbeyov, Aziza Mustafa-zade, Yusif Eyvazov, Teymur Rzayev, Chingiz Sadigov and others. She said that their activity has further enhanced the name of Azerbaijan throughout the history.

Khayala Aghayeva, an employee of the Chair of Regional Studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages, spoke about the Azerbaijani scientists living in the world. Speaking about Lutfi Zade, Kerim Kerimov, Bakhtiyar Sirajov, Garib Murshudov, Hamdulla Mehrabov, Abdul Huseynov, Iren Melikof, Shapur Ansari, Teymur Sadigov, she stressed that the Azerbaijanis have made great contributions to the world civilization for thousands of years.

Professor Asker Zeynalov, head of the Chair of Caucasian Studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages, suggested the development of a book titled "The World Azerbaijanis".

Vice-Rector in charge of Educational Issues at Azerbaijan University of Languages  Professor Afgan Abdullayev thanked the organizers of the event and congratulated the participants, as well as the staff of the University on the upcoming the 31st  of  December-the Day of Solidarity of the World Azerbaijanis and the New Year.

At the end, a video clip prepared by the students of the Faculty of International Relations and Management there was demonstrated.
