AUL hosted an event dedicated to Rabindranath Tagore

On May 5, the Embassy of India to Azerbaijan hosted the event dedicated to the  156th anniversary of the birth of  Indian writer, artist, social activist and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL).

Prior to the event, the acting rector of AUL, Professor Afgan Abdullayev, the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of India Norbu Negi, India's ambassador’s wife Barbara Rana turned on the lamp to the memory of R. Tagore.

In his opening speech, Professor A.Abdullayev welcomed the guests and expressed satisfaction of participating in the event dedicated to the well-known Indian writer R.Tagore. Speaking about the creativity of R.Tagore professor noted that he was a poet, writer, as well as artist. R.Tagore delivered information about his country and nation to the world in his works and always distinguished with his intellect, and education, he added. Noting that R.Tagore was the first non-European Nobel Prize winner, A. Abdullayev noted that he was awarded the prize for the collection of poems "Geetanjaali".

After this event, Professor A.Abdullayev expressed confidence that the students will collect detailed information about life and creativity of R.Tagore and expressed hope to further development of relations with the embassy of India.

Embassy Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of India, N.Negi welcomed the guests and thanked them for their participation on behalf of embassy. This event was dedicated to the life and creativity of   multi-talented personality, a poet and artist R.Tagore, he said.  He wrote his first poem when he was eight. T.Tagore is the only person who composed the anthem of three countries. R.Tagore defended the freedom of all mankind and his creativity inspired feelings of solidarity and the inner belief, beyond the boundaries of religion, race and language, he added.

R.Tagore’s poems were sounded in Hindi language in the event, songs were sung, and dances were demonstrated.

In the end, the Indian cuisine dishes were presented to the guests.
