On November 7, a joint lesson on the theme "Heydar Aliyev's language policy" was held under the "Auditorium +" program organized by the Department of Azerbaijan Linguistics and Azerbaijan Studies Research Laboratory (ASRL) of Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL). Professor Adil Babayev, the head of the Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics, said that the mother tongue of every nation was its national identity. He noted that there are some peoples around the world who do not have an independent state but their language. It was through this language that these people could create their own culture, literature and music. Speaking of the Azerbaijani language as one of the most beautiful languages, Babayev said it ranks 21st among the most developed languages in the world. Later, the professor shared his views on the political and moral aspects of the issue and spoke about the history of the transition to the Latin-scripted alphabet, the efforts made and the ongoing political obstacles. Elchin Ibrahimov, the scientific worker of the Azerbaijani Studies Laboratory, described the I Turkological Congress held in Baku on 26 February and 6 March 1926 as a spectacular event in the Turkic-speaking peoples, gave detailed information on its activities, results, goals, advantages and disadvantages. E. Ibrahimov later talked about the language policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev. According to him, this policy of Heydar Aliyev began with the Soviet era. Although it was not an easy task for a nation to raise the issue of independent language at that time, Heydar Aliyev managed to solve this issue at the constitutional level and the Azerbaijani language of the Azerbaijani SSR in 1978. He also commented on alphabet reform in different periods in our country. The lesson ended with answering students’ questions.
