On November 7, Irina Kunina, Head of the Scientific Research Laboratory of Multiculturalism at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), delivered a lecture on “Ethnic diversity of Azerbaijan” to local and foreign students. Talking about the religious, racial and ethnic features of the concept of multiculturalism, I.Kunina made a presentation on the national minorities settled in Azerbaijan in ancient times. “It is important for multicultural societies to live in a tolerant environment for people of different nationalities and religions. In a tolerant society, people can communicate more easily with each other. According to the President of the country, multiculturalism is the lifestyle of our country. Peoples of different religions, nations and ethnic minorities live in peace and tranquility. The state has created all the conditions for them to preserve their traditions and languages”. Speaking about the lifestyle of Udin, Rutul, Talish, Ingiloy and other ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, I.Kunina said that they lived in a mutual understanding: “After the independence of Azerbaijan, the culture of national minorities and ethnic groups living in the country is protected as an integral part of the culture of the country. They create conditions for communication in their native languages and at the same time fulfilling their religious beliefs. Protection of cultural diversity is one of the main directions of multiculturalism”. During the lecture, students were shown a short film about the life of people with architectural monuments, historical places, and people with different ethnicity. Interactive lecture students ended with answering questions.
