AUL held an event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Khojaly genocide
The acting rector of AUL, Professor Afgan Abdullayev said that Azerbaijani people were subjected to the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide by Armenian nationalist-chauvinists for 200 years on a continuous basis. Professor noted that our people were displaced from their historical lands and became refugees, all of which were accompanied by massacres of Armenians. He noted that from February 25 to 26, 1992, the Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly town with a population of 7 thousand. During the genocide, 613 people were killed, 1,000 peaceful people of different age became invalid from gunshot wounds. 106 women, 63 children, 70 old men were killed. 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, 130 people have lost one of their parents. On the night of the tragedy, 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. All this was carried out by Armenian military with special mercilessness and inconceivable barbarism.
A.Abdullayev said that after the Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev came to power for the first time, the tragedy was given political and legal assessment. In 1994, on the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev the Azerbaijani parliament adopted 26 February as the day of the genocide.
Later, a documentary film “They will never grow up” reflecting genocide was presented that was filmed on the script of resident of Khojaly, researcher and journalist Seriyye Muslumgyzy.
Acting head of Registration Department of Ministry of Justice of Nasimi district Aynur Sabitova spoke about how our people were subject to the genocide organized by Armenian gangs. Committed massacres became an unprecedented scale that the entire town had been destroyed, but A.Sabitova expressed her belief that their blood will be avenged.
Describing the terrible facts about the genocide in Khojaly, A.Sabitova stressed that, the peace-loving people all over the world, the civilized nations and international organizations, the international community should know this bitter truth, this crime against humanity should be given legal assessment. According to her, the world Azerbaijanis and the Azerbaijan government consistently and purposefully activite to convey crimes committed by Armenian nationalists against our people and the Khojaly tragedy to the world community, its recognition as genocide. It is our citizenship and humanity duty before the Khojaly victims.
A.Sabitova expressed confidence that the perpetrators of the Khojaly genocide will be punished. Because of this terrible crime must not go unpunished.
