The 3rd International Scientific Conference on “Modern Problems of Applied Linguistics” was organized by the Azerbaijan University of Languages. Guests from UK, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Finland, Japan, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other countries, as well as academic staff of AUL and other republican universities attended the conference. Scientists participating in the conference made a welcome address to the university. Here are some of those letters. “I greet people of Azerbaijan. My name is Robert Bianchi. Originally from Canada, I live in Doha, Qatar, Middle East, and work as a teacher at the English Department of Commonwealth University in Virginia. I am to be here. For the first time I come to Azerbaijan. I must say that I am surrounded by the kindness and hospitality of your country. The Azerbaijan University of Languages and all the languages tought here created a great impression on me. It’s very interesting to be here because I love many languages. I have never attended a conference that paid such attention to guests. I am very grateful for this opportunity. Today I was at city sides. Baku is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Before I came here, I had no idea about Baku. I am here and I am amazed. It’s very beautiful place.” Robert Bianchi- Associate Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University, Doha, Qatar. “The conference is dedicated to various aspects of linguistics, sociology, translation, foreign language teaching, experimental linguistics. As in the whole world, the development of linguistic issues in Azerbaijan is the same. Unfortunately, no interdisciplinary research is conducted. Another issue is financial. For example, funding is needed to conduct large-scale experiments and involve participants. Also, large-scale data analysis and specialists to upgrade are needed. That’s why we need to move forward, develop, conduct interdisciplinary research and build cooperation between the countries”. Eugenia Rikova- PhD in Paul Sabayter University, Toulouse, France “I am a professor of linguistics at the Konin State University of Applied Sciences in Poland. I have come to this conference at the invitation of well-known professor on Linguistics A.Mammadov. I accepted your invitation lovingly. I came to Baku yesterday. Although I have no time to enjoy your beautiful city, I have had the opportunity to walk through the streets of the old city. First of all, I was amazed at the beauty of your buildings. Buildings in the beautiful developing capital, I would say, are very striking. At your university I was greeted with hospitality. Dear rector Kamal Abdullayev, and our university staff have welcomed us very well. The languages taught at your university have made a great impression on me. This is a very good perspective for cooperation between Azerbaijan University of Languages and Konin State University of Applied Sciences. We signed a preliminary agreement on cooperation between the two universities on the Erasmus program. This is a teacher-student exchange within the program. So let’s look to the future with hope”. It’s my first visit here and I’m very happy to be in this beautiful city. I had a chance to see Icheri Sheher, the Boulevard and the Caspian Sea. This made a great impression on me. Language level of students studying Italian is good. The results of the students in this area are very pleasing. I am Italian and I teach Italian at Palacky University. I took part in an Italian language course with about 40-50 students. Although students are low-grade students, they have a higher level of knowledge than the average. I am very grateful to your university for allowing this experience. I am very positive about the conference. Applied linguistics is currenty the core of issues such as psycholinguistics, computational analysis, learning and teaching a foreign language”.
