Opening of the III International Scientific Conference on “Modern Problems of Applied Linguistics” was held at AUL

The III International Scientific Conference on “Modern Problems of Applied Linguistics” was held on October 25 at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL). First, the participants of the conference honored the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev in front of the bust in the lobby of the university. Guests from UK, Germanny, France, Czech Republic, Polan, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Finland, Japan, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other countries, as well as academic staff of AUL and other republican universities attended the conference. Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages, academician Kamal Abdulla said that today’s day is fascinating and remarkable. K.Abdulla said he was pleased to see foreign and local guests attending the conference. “I thank our linguists for accepting our invitation and coming to Baku. I hope our guests leave Baku with pleasant impressions and they will think about coming back again.” He said that the conferences of AUL were welcomed by the world’s leading scientific organizations and scientists, and the rector expressed confidence that new contacts would be established between academics and AUL colleagues.

Speaking about the conference, Rector Kamal Abdulla said that applied linguistics is a fundamental of all linguistic spheres: “Linguistics plays an important role today in the teaching of linguistics in theory, stylistic, grammar and other aspects. Through it we will be able to make excursus to other areas of linguistics. We will also be able to search for innovative features brought by this science in other sciences. Studying all the problems of the applied linguistics helps us to build a more effective language teaching”.

Kamal Abdulla noted that international conferences and scientific sypmosiums are a great opportunity for people from different countries to interact with each other and to strengthen their ties. “Trade unions will enrich their life and scientific experience in such conferences. We consider ourselves happy that AUL’s role in this work”. Speaking about the VI Baku International Humanitarian Forum held in Baku, K.Abdulla said that holding this event is a proof of the effective delivery of the truths of Azerbaijan to the world nations. Then the foreign guests of the conference shared their views, spoke about the prospects of future cooperation. Professor of the Konin State University of Applied Science Barbara Lewandowska delivered a lecture entitled “Protected and Expressive- British and American Cultural Linguistic Identities”.

Participants of the plenary session listened to the lectures of Professor Fakhraddin Veysalli, Head of Experimental Phonetics and Applied Linguistics Research Laboratory, Professor of the Department of General Linguistics, on “Current State of Applied Linguistics”, Professor of Samara Branch of Moscow State Pedagogical University Elchin Hashimov on “The role and place of culture in language consciousness”.

Professor Afgan Abdullayev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of AUL, gave general information on the work of the conference. He said that in the conference, which covers 25-26 October, “First experimental and comparative linguistics”, “Theoretical and Practical Issues of Sociology”, “Contemporary approaches to teaching foreign languages”, “Actual problems of translation”, “Linguistic problems of text”, will be discussed at the meeting. Within the conference, local and foreign participants will attend master classes by Professor of England Durham University Michael Bayram, as well as master classes by Barbara Lewandowska, Professor of the Konin State University of Applied Sciences.
