Event on “Restoration of State Independence: Historical and Political Realities” Held at AUL
On 16 October, Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) hosted an event titled “Restoration of State Independence: Historical and Political Realities” to mark the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The event opened with the national anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
Professor Ibrahim Kazimbayli, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations and Regional Studies at AUL, delivered the opening address.
In his speech, he discussed the historical significance of the restoration of Azerbaijan’s state independence, emphasising that the process took place under complex political circumstances.
He noted that the achievement of independence reflected the Azerbaijani people’s determination to be free, national self-awareness and commitment to the traditions of statehood.
It was emphasised that the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to political power played a crucial role in strengthening Azerbaijan’s state independence, ensuring political stability in the country and preserving its traditions of statehood. His purposeful policies helped strengthen Azerbaijan’s international standing and laid the foundations for the country’s political and economic development.
The speakers highlighted that, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan continues to develop as an independent state. Achievements in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were described as important milestones in the history of Azerbaijani statehood.
A video presentation on the history of Azerbaijan’s independence was then shown.
The event also featured speeches by Aynur Isayeva, lecturer at the Department of International Relations; Aysel Karimova, lecturer at the Department of Regional Studies of Eastern Countries; and Fidan Bayramova, lecturer at the Department of Caucasus Studies and Azerbaijani History. They discussed the historical and political foundations of the restoration of Azerbaijan’s state independence, the stages of the struggle for independence and the country’s contemporary development.
The speakers emphasised that the restoration of state independence on 18 October 1991 was a landmark event in the history of the Azerbaijani people.
They also noted that safeguarding independence, strengthening state sovereignty and protecting national interests remain key priorities of Azerbaijan’s development strategy.
The event concluded with a musical performance entitled “My Azerbaijan” presented by AUL students.
