On September 21, 2026, an event titled “Azerbaijan’s State Sovereignty: The Historical Path from the Patriotic War to the Restoration of Full Sovereignty” was jointly organized by the Faculty of International Relations and Regional Studies (BMR) and the Graduate School.

Opening the event, Dean Professor Ibrahim Kazimbeyli noted that the full restoration of Azerbaijan’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity was one of the most important stages in the country’s history of independence. In his speech, the dean emphasized that the 44-day Patriotic War represented a decisive stage in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. He also drew attention to the local anti-terror operation conducted on September 19–20, 2023, noting that the operation created the conditions for the restoration of state authority and the constitutional order in Azerbaijan’s former Nagorno-Karabakh region. The dean also specifically highlighted President Ilham Aliyev’s decree of September 19, 2024, designating September 20 as the Day of State Sovereignty.
