Essay Competition “Architecture – The Solidified Will of an Era” Held at AUL
On April 27, Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) successfully organized an essay writing competition titled “Architecture – The Solidified Will of an Era,” dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and held within the framework of the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture.”
The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of English and German Languages, the Faculty of English and French Languages, and the University Trade Union Committee.
The main purpose of the competition was to pass on the legacy of Heydar Aliyev—recognized as the architect of modern Azerbaijan—to future generations, to broaden students’ understanding of this prominent statesman, and to enhance their knowledge of the centuries-old traditions of urban planning and architecture in the country. It also aimed to deepen students’ awareness of architectural and urban development projects initiated under the leadership of the National Leader. In addition, the competition sought to reveal students’ creative potential, develop their analytical and critical thinking skills, and improve their written communication abilities.
A total of 120 students from the first, second, and third academic years participated in the competition. Essays were written in English, German, and French. Participants demonstrated their knowledge and perspectives on various topical issues. The essays covered themes such as sustainable urban development, the impact of urbanization on society, modern architectural trends, innovative city planning, preservation of historical and cultural heritage, and environmental balance. Students showed creative approaches and presented original ideas in their works.
Currently, the submitted essays are being evaluated by a jury. The assessment criteria include content richness, relevance to the topic, analytical depth, language and stylistic quality, and creativity. The results of the competition and the announcement of winners are expected in the coming days.
The organizers emphasized that such competitions play an important role in developing students’ scientific and creative potential, as well as in shaping their ability to think independently and express ideas in a well-reasoned manner. It was also noted that these initiatives foster a healthy competitive environment among students and that similar projects are planned to continue and expand in the future.
