Event Dedicated to Azerbaijan–United Kingdom Literary Relations Held
On April 10, an event titled “National Leader Heydar Aliyev: Azerbaijan–United Kingdom Literary and Cultural Relations” was held at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, organized by the Department of World Literature and Theory under the Faculty of Philology. During the event, participants widely discussed the historical stages of development of literary relations between the two countries, the possibilities for mutual influence, and their significance in the modern era.
In his opening remarks, the Head of the Department, Professor Shahin Khalilli, emphasized the role of literature as a spiritual bridge between peoples, noting that the growing mutual interest between Azerbaijani and British literature has further deepened cultural dialogue.
The event’s guest, member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Rasim Nabioglu, highlighted the leading role of fiction in the development of literary relations between the two countries. He noted that literary works, initiatives, and creative activities in this field have strengthened mutual influence.
Associate Professor Ulviyya Aliyeva, PhD in Philology, spoke about the historical stages of Azerbaijan–UK literary relations, pointing out that these ties have been shaped in different periods primarily through literary works.
Next, Senior Lecturer Turan Karimli, PhD in Philology, analyzed the work of Professor Shahin Khalilli within the context of literary relations, emphasizing that the synthesis of Azerbaijani and Western literary traditions in his works holds significant scientific and aesthetic value.
Finally, Lecturer Laman Mammadli noted the important role of translation in the development of literary relations, stressing that transferring literary texts from one language to another is not merely a linguistic process but also a sharing of cultural and aesthetic values.
The event concluded with discussions on the future prospects of Azerbaijan–United Kingdom literary relations, highlighting the unifying power of literature.
