AUL’s next success: significant progress in the QS ranking table

01 april, 2026

The development trend observed in all sectors in Azerbaijan is particularly noticeable in the field of education. Undoubtedly, this progress is based on the scientific and educational ideas of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the strategic course implemented on the basis of those ideas. It is this strategic course that was founded by the architect of the modern Republic of Azerbaijan, National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.

The steps taken and state programs implemented under the close attention and purposeful directives of the head of state serve to achieve qualitatively new development trends in the education system and to attain high results. As a victorious nation that has conveyed the truth about Karabakh to the world, we now confidently assert ourselves in science and education globally and enter a new stage of development.

The results of the 2026 QS rankings demonstrate that Azerbaijan’s higher education system has entered a qualitatively new phase of development. The inclusion of 7 universities from the country in the rankings across 22 different subject areas confirms that institutional sustainability and academic development have taken on a comprehensive character. This is a clear indicator of the implementation of new scientific approaches, innovative teaching methods, and the strengthening of international academic integration in Azerbaijan’s higher education sphere. This achievement shows both the growth of the country’s research potential and the strengthening of universities’ positions in the global competitive environment.

In this regard, the Azerbaijan University of Languages has achieved another historic success. The international ranking agency “Quacquarelli Symonds” (QS) has published its latest ranking table of the world’s best universities by subject for 2026. According to the results, the Azerbaijan University of Languages has significantly improved its position in the field of “Modern Languages,” ranking within the 151–200 range. At the same time, the university has been included in the rankings for the first time in the field of “Linguistics,” placing in the 251–300 group. This achievement is based on the university’s academic reputation, its active engagement in international scientific cooperation, and the quality indicators of research conducted by its scholars, meeting modern educational standards. Advancing by 50 positions in the “Modern Languages” category among 6,273 universities in the QS rankings, the Azerbaijan University of Languages has once again demonstrated its place and role in Azerbaijan’s education system.

This new success, achieved under the leadership of the rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages, academician Kamal Abdulla, demonstrates that his strategic management has strengthened the university’s academic reputation, scientific potential, and prospects for development in international relations, while also reinforcing its position in the global academic arena.

On the occasion of this achievement, I congratulate the university staff and wish them continued success.
