Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) has been ranked among the world’s top 151–200 universities in the “Modern Languages” program, and for the first time, it has entered the “Linguistics” ranking, placing in the 251–300 range.

On March 25, the international ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published its 2026 edition of the world’s best universities by subject. According to the results, Azerbaijan University of Languages significantly improved its position in “Modern Languages,” rising to the 151–200 band. At the same time, the university made its debut in the “Linguistics” category, ranking within the 251–300 group.

For the 2026 rankings, QS analyzed the academic reputation and research performance of approximately 6,273 higher education institutions. Among them, 1,908 universities were evaluated across 55 narrow subject areas and 5 broad fields, resulting in more than 21,000 indicators. These figures demonstrate the large-scale and comprehensive nature of QS subject rankings.

It is worth noting that Azerbaijan University of Languages has shown steady and dynamic progress in recent years. While the university was ranked in the 301–340 range for “Modern Languages” in 2023 and 2024, it improved to 201–250 in 2025, and in 2026, it further advanced into the top 200.

QS subject rankings are based on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and the international research collaboration index. These metrics allow for a comprehensive assessment of universities’ research capacity as well as their position in the global academic environment.
