Nigar Medetova successfully completes an international professional development program
Nigar Medetova, Associate Professor of the Department of English Stylistics at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), PhD in Philology, has successfully completed the DEEP 2 professional development training course titled “Decolonising English Teaching Pedagogy: Teaching the Teachers,” organized by the University of York, one of the United Kingdom’s prestigious higher education institutions, and has been awarded an international certificate.
The 60-hour training course, worth 2 ECTS credits, was delivered by Professor Ursula Lanvers of the University of York’s Department of Education.
The training program covered topics such as the nature and origins of English as a lingua franca, the future of the English language and meeting the needs of future learners, various conceptual approaches to English, teaching English as a global language, instructional challenges related to interaction with other L2 English users in international communication, the relationship between language and culture in teaching, the impact of teaching and learning English on the identities of teachers and learners, as well as practical solutions for English language teaching.
This achievement not only reflects Nigar Medetova’s professional development, but will also make a significant contribution to enhancing the quality of teaching at the Azerbaijan University of Languages and to integrating international experience into the educational process.
