A scientific and artistic event in Russian and English dedicated to the legacy of Uzeyir Hajibeyli has been held.
At Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), a scientific and artistic event in Russian and English was organized on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
For the past two years, the Department of Western Countries Regional Studies has supported the initiative of holding events in students’ languages of instruction at the Faculty of International Relations and Regional Studies (IRRS). Within this framework, a scientific and artistic event was held in Russian on 15 October 2025 with the participation of students studying in the Russian section, and on 15 December 2025, an event in English was organized at the initiative of IRRS students studying in the English section.
The event was organized by lecturers of the Department of Western Countries Regional Studies — senior lecturers Ulviya Huseynova and Sevinc Gurbanova, as well as lecturers Elshan Isayev and Ayten Khanlarova.
The scientific and artistic program began with a presentation dedicated to the life and creative work of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, followed by a video presentation prepared using materials from the composer’s house museum. This was followed by a short theatrical performance reflecting national and moral values. Within the framework of the event, presentations, video clips, and stage performances were showcased, dedicated to the circumstances and process of composing the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, the opera “Leyli and Majnun,” and immortal works such as “Arshin Mal Alan” and “O Olmasın, Bu Olsun.”
Reports on Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s pedagogical activity and the impact of his legacy on Azerbaijani culture further enhanced the scientific and practical significance of the event.
It was noted that the organization of a scientific event on this topic by students demonstrates that Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s legacy is studied not only as a musical phenomenon, but also through the prism of national ideology, cultural diplomacy, and the concept of Azerbaijanism. The engagement of students of the Faculty of International Relations and Regional Studies with this heritage is also of great importance in promoting Azerbaijan’s rich cultural legacy on the international stage.
The Head of the Department of Western Countries Regional Studies, Professor Sevdagül Aliyeva, emphasized the special importance of such events in promoting national culture.
At the end of the event, an interactive survey ensured the active involvement of participants, contributing to a deeper understanding of Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s legacy among young people. Overall, the event was significant in terms of promoting national musical heritage and preserving cultural memory.
