Commemoration Event Held at AUL on the Anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev
On December 11, an event dedicated to the commemoration of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL).
The event was attended by the university’s academic staff and students.
The cherished memory of Heydar Aliyev was honored with a minute of silence.
Rector of AUL, Academician Kamal Abdulla, spoke about the National Leader’s profound love for the people of Azerbaijan and his invaluable historical contributions.
It was noted that all the achievements gained by our country are the result of the political course founded by the great leader Heydar Aliyev:
“The younger generation must know that if National Leader Heydar Aliyev had not come to power in Azerbaijan, today’s Azerbaijan would not exist.
In the most difficult period of independent Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev risked his life and carried out tremendous work for our nation and country. During the early years of independence, when Azerbaijan faced the threat of disintegration and disappearance from the world map, his wise leadership, devotion to the people, great effort, and experience saved the country from catastrophe.
Public and political stability was restored, and Azerbaijan succeeded in presenting itself to the world as one of the most reliable and powerful states in the region.
On the night of January 19–20, 1990, the Soviet empire committed a horrific massacre in Baku in an attempt to suppress the Azerbaijani people’s aspirations for freedom and independence.
Even though he was far from the Motherland during those difficult days, our National Leader Heydar Aliyev could not remain indifferent to the fate of his people. Risking his life once again, he raised his voice in defense of the nation.
On January 21, at the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan in Moscow, he held a press conference condemning the brutal attack against unarmed civilians as an action contrary to law, democracy, and humanity, and exposed the criminal acts of the Soviet leadership.
May God have mercy on the National Leader. May his resting place be full of light. We will never forget him.”
The event continued with students reciting poems dedicated to the National Leader, performing songs, and presenting literary and artistic compositions.
