AUL instructors represent Azerbaijan at the Caracas Poetry Festival
Elvira Imanova, senior lecturer at the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation of Romance Languages of the Faculty of Translation, and Nargiz Madatova, senior lecturer at the Department of Modern Languages of the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), participated in the 2nd International Poetry Festival held in Caracas, the capital of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, from November 20 to 23.
The visit took place within the framework of cooperation between AUL and the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Azerbaijan. As part of the festival, our instructors attended the presentation ceremony of three books translated by students who completed their practical training during the 2024–2025 academic year at the Embassy of Venezuela and at AUL’s Spanish Language Center. These books contain translations of works by prominent representatives of Venezuelan poetry.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Jorge Rodríguez, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, government officials, and Venezuela’s Minister of Communication and Information, renowned poet Freddy Ñáñez. Freddy Ñáñez, one of the leading figures of the festival’s organizing committee, delivered remarks during the event. The ceremony was broadcast live on Venezuela's national television channel.
The event opened with the screening of a promotional video about the Republic of Azerbaijan. This was followed by information about the university’s activities, the students’ translation process, and AUL’s areas of international cooperation, accompanied by a video presentation in the background. Brochures reflecting the university’s structure and activities were distributed to the participants.
At the conclusion of the presentation, the authors of the translated books recited their poems in Spanish, and AUL senior lecturer Elvira Imanova presented their Azerbaijani translations.
During the festival, AUL instructors gave interviews to various Venezuelan media outlets, emphasizing that the project contributes to strengthening cultural and humanitarian relations between the two countries.
