Premiere of “Ruh” Staged at Fuzuli State Drama Theater
On November 25, the Fuzuli State Drama Theater hosted the premiere of “Ruh”, a play based on the work of People’s Writer and academician Kamal Abdulla.
The production’s stage director is Mirza Nicat, set designer Ellinaz Balashova, music arranger Sanan Sevinikzade, and assistant director Gulgez Soltanova.
The central idea of the play revolves around a person’s journey of self-discovery, their encounter with their own spirit, and the descent into the depths of their inner world. The dialogues between the protagonist and the Spirit, along with symbolic scenes and recurring mystical motifs, transform into a poetic expression of the existential questions one poses to oneself. Time and space in the play are fluid—events shift between past and future.
The characters are less like real individuals and more like symbolic representations. They embody the protagonist’s emotional states, inner fragmentation, fears, hopes, and the various layers of thought. The Spirit is not only a metaphysical element but also a symbol of inner light, truth, and a quest for spiritual meaning. Each character’s encounter with the Spirit leads to inner purification and self-recognition.
The cast includes Anar Buludov (The Hermit), Sevinc Mammadova (The Fearful Woman), Qachaq Garayev (Suspicious Creature), Elchin Mammadov (The Restless Man), Ali Huseynov (The Lungs), and Sebuhi Ahmadov (The Lonely One).
It is worth noting that the performance was broadcast live on Culture TV.
