A roundtable on "Multicultural society in modern international relations" was held at AUL

A roundtable on "Multicultural society in modern international relations" was held at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) on October 27 within the framework of the Audience + program organized by the International Relations Department of the University.

Head of the department, doctor of political sciences, Associate Professor Aida Yusifzadeh said that multiculturalism plays an important role in state policy in modern Azerbaijan. Noting that multicultural society was created in our country from ancient times, Yusifzadeh stressed that it is a consistent policy reflecting the national-moral and universal values of our state. According to her, President Ilham Aliyev has evaluated multiculturalism as a lifestyle, and it has no alternative. From this point of view, multiculturalism will always remain relevant.

Teacher of this Department Aysel Baghirova made a presentation on the concept of multiculturalism, its origin, and development in the world and in Azerbaijan, models and components, as well as gender equality in multicultural society, cultural values. She said that all groups with ethnic, religious, racial or cultural diversity can preserve their rights and freedoms and transfer them to future generations in a multicultural society. Speaking about the Azerbaijan model of multiculturalism, A. Baghirova noted that multicultural values have ancient history in our country and that this tradition is still successfully continued.

Later, a senior teacher of the Department, PhD in law, Mehriban Babakhanova made a presentation on "Legal guarantees in multicultural society". She spoke about the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the rights and freedoms set forth in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. M.Babakhanova noted that it guarantees equality of rights and freedoms of everyone irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, language, sex, origin. M.Babakhanova also shared her views on the concept of tolerance, its history of development and its essence.

At the roundtable, students were informed about the diverse multicultural values of different regions, as well as video content of multiculturalism and tolerance surveys among students.

The event continued with exchange of views.
