A seminar titled “Postcolonial Approach in the Study of International Relations” was jointly organized by the Department of International Relations and the Doctoral Studies Office at Azerbaijan University of Languages (ADU) for PhD students.

The event was opened by the head of the Department of International Relations, Professor Aida Yusifzadə, who spoke about the consequences of colonialism in contemporary world politics and its continuing effects today.

Following this, Associate Professor Aysel Bağırova presented a report on the factors that shaped postcolonialism as a new theoretical direction in international relations, the main tenets of the postcolonial approach, its prominent representatives, and their concepts.

During the presentation, it was noted that postcolonial research offers an analytical perspective not only from the viewpoint of former colonial powers but also from the perspective of peoples who were once under colonial rule. It was also emphasized that applying new critical methodologies alongside traditional methods significantly contributes to a comprehensive study of international relations.

The seminar continued with practical applications of the postcolonial approach and active discussions among the PhD students.
