
On November 14, Confucius Institute operating at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) hosted an event "Chinese Fashion: From Traditions to the Present Days" devoted to the study of the role of traditional clothing in the ethno-cultural history of Chinese people.
Making an opening speech, Professor Rafig Abbasov, the Director of the Confucius Institute informed the participants about the history of the Chinese costume reflecting the national clothing forms for men and women in written monuments and portraits described in special ancient Chinese Laws. He also spoke about the Chinese noble and holiday costumes meant for official and triumphant ceremonies unique road costumes and raincoats –“rain clothes” and the symbolic decorative elements of the Chinese clothes.
Fakhriya Khalafova, the founder of “Fakhriya Khalafova” fashion house, the first professional painter-designer, Honored art worker of Azerbaijan, Associate professor of the Modeling Department at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, spoke about her participation in the Second Eurasian Silk Road Clothing Festival in China. She said that she demonstrated the handmade collection of handwritten paintings reflecting the national color and unique Azerbaijani folklore decorations in that festival. F.Khalafova also shared the secrets of style and decoration, bright colors, the originality of models and accessories, the features of knitting, the combinations of weaving, joining the Oriental and Western models and originality of accessories.
Delivering her speech in the events, Chen Siaojen, a teacher of Confucius Institute explained the traditional features of the Chinese costume, distinguished by elegance, conceptual national style, its unique color and decoration. She especially emphasized the main styles of "tsipao" and "xanfu" gowns, which are traditional silk dresses.
At the end of the event, modern models of Chinese women's clothing were demonstrated.
