A Round Table on “Writing Scientific Theses” Held at ADU
A round table discussion on the topic “Writing Scientific Theses” was held at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) with the aim of increasing students’ interest in scientific activity and improving their academic writing skills.
The event took place on October 10 at the joint initiative of the AUL Student Scientific Society (TEC) and the Department of English Grammar.
Head of the Department of English Grammar, Professor L. Khanbutayeva, opened the event by greeting the participants and guests, emphasizing the importance of such meetings aimed at promoting scientific activity at the university. She noted that the culture of academic writing is an essential component of the professional development of young researchers.
The round table was attended by Associate Professor V. Babayeva, Dean of the Faculty of English and French Languages; Dr. A. Mammadbayli, Doctor of Philology and Chair of the Student Scientific Society; R. Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Strategic Development and Planning; as well as academic staff of the Department of English Grammar, first- and third-year students, and master’s students.
The trainer of the event, Dr. Sahila Mustafayeva, delivered a presentation on “The Proper Structure of a Thesis,” providing participants with detailed information about the main stages of academic writing, the principles of thesis composition, and the norms of academic style.
The speaker stressed that in the process of academic writing, clear expression of purpose and idea, proper use of sources, and justification of results are the key indicators that determine the quality of a scientific work.
In the final part, participants exchanged views on challenges encountered during research, source selection, and combating plagiarism. The round table attracted great interest from students, their questions were answered, and practical recommendations were given to enhance their academic writing skills.
