AUL celebrated Martisor

On March 1, the embassies of Romania and Moldova to Azerbaijan hosted the Spring Day- Martisor national holiday of both countries at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL).
Acting rector of AUL, Professor Afgan Abdullayev welcomed the guests and expressed his satisfaction with their visit. He congratulated Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania and Moldova to Azerbaijan on the occasion of the holiday, and added that he hopes holiday will bring success to both countries. Professor A.Abdullayev said that Azerbaijan celebrates the coming of spring solemnly and briefed the participants on the national holiday of Novruz. He spoke about the visits of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Romania and the special importance of bilateral relations.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania Dan Ianku expressed his satisfaction. He noted that Azerbaijan University of Languages is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions and thanked the management of AUL for the conditions created to hold the holiday of Martisor for the first time at the university.
Providing information about Martisor holiday to the guests, the ambassador spoke about how Romanians celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. At the same time he compared Martisor with the holiday of Novruz. Ambassador Dan Ianku noted that the holiday of Martisor reflects peoples' expectations for the next year.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Azerbaijan George Leuka spoke about the holiday and noted that the holiday is included in the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage. This holiday is the traditional holiday reflecting how to meet the spring in Moldova, he said. Comparing Martisor and the holiday of Novruz , 5 thousand Azerbaijanis live in Moldova and they have already started to prepare for the festival, he said.
At the end martisors made of red and white yarn were distributed among the participants. Then the guests familiarized with the exhibition prepared on the holiday.
