Roundtable on "Tolerance in Azerbaijan: as a Socio-Political Model throughout the Country and Abroad" was held at AUL

On November 16, a roundtable on "Tolerance in Azerbaijan: as a Socio-Political Model throughout the Country and Abroad" organized by Multiculturalism Research Laboratory (SRL) of Azerbaijan University of Languages ​​(AUL) was held within the framework of Auditorium+ project. In her opening speech, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Culture Studies, Ph.D. Banovsha Mammadova said “November 16 is celebrated as an International Day of Tolerance in the world”. Later, a scientific worker of Multiculturalism SRL, Ph.D. Rashad Ilyasov shared his views on tolerance. He said “tolerance emerged in Europe in the 16th century, and since November 16, 1995 this day has been celebrated as an International Day of Tolerance by UNESCO”. R.Ilyasov spoke about how tolerance was included into scientific and historical literature, its terminological meaning, as well as its position in Islamic civilization. Highlighting tolerance to have been existing in Azerbaijan historically, R.Ilyasov added that “more than 30 ethnic groups live in a tolerant and multicultural environment in our country”. The students of the Faculties of Translation and Culture Studies and Education took an active part in the roundatable. Many reports  were made by different people, such as  Aydan Guliyeva, Master of AUL, on “Ethnic diversity of Azerbaijan", Scientific worker of Multiculturalism SRL, PhD  Rashad Ilyasov on "Islamic Solidarity and Multiculturalism", and Turan Kerimli, a junior  researcher at the same laboratory on "Foreign Projects of Heydar Aliyev Foundation". A documentary film concerning the issue was also demonstrated and the students' questions were answered.
