International Day of Families Celebrated at Azerbaijan University of Languages

An event dedicated to the International Day of Families was organized by the Strategic Development and Planning Department of the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL). The aim of the event was to highlight the role of the family institution in society, promote family values, and foster public awareness among participants on this subject.
The event was opened by the Head of the Strategic Development and Planning Department, Roya Aliyeva, who emphasized that the family is the foundation of society. She noted that, according to the resolution adopted by the United Nations in 1993, May 15 has been annually observed as the International Day of Families, playing a significant role in promoting policies aimed at family well-being.
As part of the event, an interactive training session was delivered by department specialist Gunay Seyidova. During the session, the relationship between families and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was explained. Participants were informed in particular about the connections between family structures and SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
The training was followed by an interactive discussion entitled “Thought-Provoking Family Questions,” in which participants shared their thoughts on intra-family support, emotional bonds, the development of family relationships, and the preservation of traditions. Each participant recalled personal experiences with family members and reflected on how family values have influenced their lives.
The event encouraged participants to reflect on the concept of family and served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting family values. At the same time, this initiative was recognized as an example of social responsibility contributing to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
