The Azerbaijan University of Languages held a Forum on the topic "Sovereignty and Constitution: with young people into the future" within the framework of the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem and a minute of silence in memory of the shehids who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Welcoming the participants of the forum, the rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages, Academician Kamal Abdulla emphasized the importance of the event. He noted that the strengthening of the state sovereignty of Azerbaijan, the protection of human rights and the construction of an independent state are developing in the context of the rich heritage of the statehood of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Since the restoration of independence, Azerbaijan has paid special attention to building the constitutional state, and has achieved significant success in this direction.
In his speech, Academician Kamal Abdulla emphasized that the preservation of national values and the formation of legal awareness play an important role in the further development of society. He noted that such events are of great importance for improving the legal literacy of young people, their awareness of civic responsibility and active social position.
The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva, addressing the participants of the forum, noted that the protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms are priority areas of state policy. After the restoration of independence, the country carried out consistent and comprehensive reforms in the field of building the rule of law, a fundamental legal framework was formed.
It was reported that “Human rights month” is held in Azerbaijan from May 18 to June 18, within the framework of which a series of educational events dedicated to human rights is being implemented. During the month, special attention is paid to legal education, discussion of current challenges in the field of human rights and coverage of activities carried out at the national level. Given that 2025 has been declared the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty in Azerbaijan, the emphasis is on promoting constitutional values and the rule of law.
At the forum, reports were made by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Baku State University, Associate Professor Zaur Aliyev ("Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Human Rights"), Dean of the Faculty of International Relations and Regional Studies of AUL, Professor Ibrahim Kyzymbeyli ("Heritage of Heydar Aliyev, Independent Statehood and Modernity"), Dean of the Faculty of Education of the Baku State University of Ukraine, Professor Hikmet Alizade ("Sovereignty is the National Heritage of the People"), as well as AUL student Leila Rzazazade with the topic "Information Front in the Second Karabakh War: Support from students and teaching staff of AUL").
The speakers spoke about the contribution of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the provision and protection of human rights, the adoption of the first national Constitution after the restoration of state independence, as well as the legal reforms, carried out in the country.
