On April 24, a roundtable co-organized by the Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics and the Academic Research Laboratory of Azerbaijan studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages (the AUL) was held on the theme "ADR and Education" within the series of events devoted to the 100^th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Opening the event, Professor Adil Babayev, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics, said that Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic state in the Middle East, made unprecedented initiatives to enlighten the people: "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic attached great importance to the preparation of national cadres and development of the educational system. The nationalization of schools and the mother tongue instruction in primary education can be noted as the steps taken in this duration. The foundation of Baku State University, one of the leading universities of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which began functioning as the first European-type university in the Muslim East, was laid in the period of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The policy pursued in the field of education created real opportunities for the cultural development of representatives of different nationalities living in Azerbaijan ".

Associate Professor of the Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics Fazil Ahmadov said that a series of events is being held in all scientific and educational institutions, public and private entities, following the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated  May 16 2017 on the 100^th anniversary of the ADR. He spoke about the efforts of the ADR government to eliminate illiteracy, its contribution to the development of culture, science and education.

Hajar Mahmudova, the principes of school No. 144, said that successful steps were taken to develop a national educational system in the period of the ADR. She  stated that the first Ministry of Education was also established during the period of the ADR.
