The Opening Ceremony of the Institute of German Studies was Held at Azerbaijan University of Languages

On March 1, the  opening ceremony of the Institute of German Studies was held  at Azerbaijan University of Languages ​​(AUL).

Participation of selected students and teachers in the different qualification courses in Germany, organization of lectures by  German professors at AUL, and activities of AUL teachers in Germany are envisaged within the framework of the Institute of German studies. The institute will beheaded  by Mrs. Sieglinde Hartmann, the great propagandist of Azerbaijani literature, Professor of the German University of Wurzburg and AUL , President of Oswald von Wolkenstein Society.

Representatives of German, Austrian and Swiss Embassies, and those of German-language organizations in Azerbaijan and collaborators of German Universities participated at the event.

The national Anthems of Azerbaijan, Germany, Austria and Switzerland were performed at the event.

Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, Academician Kamal Abdulla said he was pleased to see the guests at the University. He noted that today is a very spectacular and historical day in the History of AUL. He emphasized the language and culture of many countries are propagated at AUL. Speaking about the scientific, educational and even political significance of the opening of this Institute, Rector thanked all who contributed to this work. He said the German scientific and cultural figure S. Hartmann, who was closely involved in the opening of the Institute, is a well-known researcher not only in Germany but also all over the world. Rector said that along with AUL the Institute of German Studies will be useful for other Universities of the country. Rector noted that he is strongly convinced that  AUL would expand its ties with the scientific circles of Germany, Austria and Switzerland through this Institute. Reminding the Decree signed by  the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to immortalize the memory of the German scientist Friedrich Von Dietz who investigated “The Book of Dada Gogud” and made  it known throughout the world  in 2015, Rector spoke about other  representatives of German literature. He mentioned that the Institute of German Studies  will play a special role in the students’ dimprovement. Rector emphasized that Professor S. Hartmann has been in touch with Azerbaijani Universities for more than ten years  and has done  special services in the spread of  the German language, culture, history and literature in our country. Rector thanked S. Hartmann for the recognition of Azerbaijani literature in Germany and German-speaking countries, expressing his gratitude for her  activity.

Professor S.Hartmans spoke about her arrival and first impressions in Azerbaijan. She recalled her work with Acad. K. Abdulla and dwelt on the gained experience. Professor said the opening of the Institute of German studies in Azerbaiajn  was a great honor for the Federal Republic of Germany, and thanked everyone who had the German  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary  to Azerbaijan Mr.Michael Kindsgrab, the  Swiss Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary  to Azerbaijan Philip Sdhdalder and Wolfgang Marxardt, the council of the Austrian Embassy to Azerbaijan, spoke on the occasion of opening the Institute of German Studies. Speaking of the expanding mutual relations with AUL they said that these ties also contributed to the relations between the countries.

Then Professor Sarkhan Abdullayev, Head of the Department  of Lexicology and Stylistics of the German Language, as well as the Caliph Rector Nijat Ashurov and student Parvana Yahyazadeh appreciated   the opening of the Institute as a great success.

At the end of the ceremony, the II and III courses students of AUL performed songs in German.
