There was held a ceremony on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Italian Centre at Azerbaijan University of Languages.

Nərgiz Cəfərova, head of the Centre, said that the Italian Centre opened in 2009 and gave information about the activity of the Centre. She noted that the Italian Centre has a rich library and spoke about the Italian guests, who were invited to the Centre and about the events taking place in the Centre. She pointed out that last year a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Azerbaijan University of Languages and the Napoli University of Oriental Studies of Italy.

Professor Əfqan Abdullayev, the vice-rector on academic issues of Azerbaijan University of Languages said that more than 15 languages and cultural centres function in Azerbaijan University of Languages in order to promote the University and the represented countries. The vice-rector emphasized that the Italian Centre is an exemplary centre due to its activity and wished success to the Centre in the coming years.

 Umberto Boyeri, deputy of the ambassador of Italy to Azerbaijan, said that it is a great honor to take part in the ceremony. He noted that the Italian Centre is a reference centre for teaching Italian in Azerbaijan and added that the centre contributes to the development of relations between the two countries. The deputy of the ambassador said that the students learning Italian are also of great significance and pointed out that teaching Italian is a priority for the Italian Embassy. He also spoke about the future plans of the Embassy concerning education.

 Elnur Camalxanov, vice-president of Baku-Napoli Association on Azerbaijan gave information about the activity of the Association and projects implemented into life. He also said that the institution of a Centre of the Azerbaijani Language and Culture at the University of Oriental Studies of Italy is one of successful activities. Then it was said that the head of the Italian Centre at Azerbaijan University of Languages Nərgiz Cəfərova has been decorated with the medal of Baku-Napoli Association of Friendship

The video-congratulations of the heads of the centres and organizations of language centres and organizations, which cooperate with Centre, were demonstrated.

Then the students of the Faculty of Translation demonstrated Italian songs and dances. There was also an exhibition of the portraits of the popular Italian men of arts and letters. After the ceremony the participants tasted the meals of the national Italian kitchen.
