Multicultural Nouruz Holiday at Azerbaijan University of Languages

On March 19, 2019, a multicultural Nouruz Holiday event was held at Azerbaijan University of Languages. It was organized by the centres of languages and cultures of the University, in which the ambassadors of different countries and representatives of the diplomatic missions took place.

Academician Kamal Abdulla, rector of the University, greeted the guests and expressed his pleasure to see them at the University:

“Today is the national holiday of Azerbaijan. We have brought this holiday from the depth of centuries. Nouruz is the revival of the nature, arrival of spring. Nouruz is the renewal and rejuvenation of the spirits of the people. We have celebrated it along the centuries in different places of Azerbaijan – in Şuşa, Laçın, Gəncə, Naxçıvan, Lənkəran, Astara, Qusar, Xaçmaz, - in  all the regions and habitations of Azerbaijan and always our friends have been with us. Today the friends of Azerbaijan are again with us. Today a multicultural atmosphere is reigning in our University, many peoples and cultures meet here”.

Dan Stav, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan, thanked all the organizers of the event: “As we know, there are many centres in Azerbaijan University of languages. Each of these centres represents a culture. From this point of view it is a good initiative. Nouruz is one of the nice holidays. I am proud that I take part in this holiday celebration”.

Sejio Peres Gunela, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Argentina to Azerbaijan, said that Azerbaijan is a multicultural country, Spanish is taught here very well. It is my first speech since I began my mission as an ambassador in Azerbaijan. In future I shall take part in all the events taking place in Azerbaijan University of Languages, because I see that Spanish is highly propagated in your University. Of course, it plays an important role in the development of our relations. In this way we also can represent our people well”.

Husan bey Fanani, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Indonesia to Azerbaijan, highly appreciated the organization of the multicultural Nouruz Holiday ceremony. He stressed that Azerbaijan University of Languages was one of the advanced universities of the country. He attracted the attention to the establishment of the relations of friendship with all the countries of the world by the young generation of Azerbaijan.

Kristopher Martinez, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Venezuela to Azerbaijan, declared that the representatives of different nations are successfully represented in the ceremony. He added that with the help of the language we express ourselves, build relations in the world: “We see clearly that the students, who are learning languages here, represent them very highly. It is a great honour for me to celebrate Nouruz Holiday in Azerbaijan. We share cultures here. Culture and language unite us as brotherly countries”.

Alfredo Fidel Nieves, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Cuba to Azerbaijan, appreciates Nouruz as a holiday, which brings into contact different cultures.

Michel Peterson, public affairs attaché of the embassy of the United States, Usu Takaki, vice-ambassador and head of the department of culture and education at the embassy of Japan in Azerbaijan, Dominic Janti, senior advisor of the ambassador of France in Azerbaijan, Alberta Aura Gonzales, deputy ambassador of Mexico in Azerbaijan, Olav Nils Thue, charge’ de affairs of Norway in Azerbaijan, Ignacio Sanchez, Van Cuengan, employee of the embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Xairo Lopez Bolanos, charge’ de affairs of Kostas Rika declared that Azerbaijan has a rich culture and has made a great contribution to multiculturalism. The guests thanked the administration of the University for the organization of the celebration, in which the customs of different peoples were demonstrated, wished peace, prosperity and happiness to everyone.

The students demonstrated national dances belonging to different nations and sang

songs.

At the end of the ceremony the guests tasted the meals prepared on the occasion of the holiday.
