18 october, 2018

An international conference on “Siberia and the languages of the surrounding regions: actual problems of experimental and applied linguistics” was held on October 8-10 of this year, together with the Institute of Philology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, jointly with Azerbaijan University of Languages. During the three days of the International Conference held in Novosibirsk, 55 reports were listened and discussed.

There are three people from Azerbaijan- prof.H.M.Zarbaliyev, associate professor J.M.Babayev and F.Y.Veysalli, the founder and editor-in-chief of this magazine, a member of Editorial Board of the “Siberian Native Peoples’ Languages and Folklore”, published by the Institute of Philology of REA. All three of us delivered reports at the plenary session of the International Conference. F.Y.Veyselli “Current State of Applied Linguistics”, prof.H.M.Zarbaliyev “Serialization of Homogenous Parts” and associate professor J.M.Babayev “The Accentological Character of the Turkic Languages (on the basis of the Azerbaijani language” is a proof of the fact that Azerbaijani linguistics is on the world scale. We should note that prof.H.M.Zarbaliyev and I were the members of the Organizing Committee of the conference.

The day before the conference, the Scientific Council of the Philological Institute held three lectures on the unforgettable memory of prominent specialist in Chukot-Kamchatka language, A.Malseva. Then a film about the life of this young scientist was demonstrated.

The next day, speaking at the plenary session, the Director of the FP, doctor of philological sciences, prof. I.V.Silantyev congratulated the participants of the conference and wished them success in scientific creativity.

Afterwards, i spoke briefly about the importance of signing an agreement on cooperation between the Philology Institute and our University in 2014, and I conveyed the rector of the University academician Mr.Abdullayev’s greetings to the participants of the conference. Reportedly, today, linguistism is gaining broader scope not only in humanitarian, but also technical fields. It covers issues ranging from alphabets to speech identification based on speech signals. Both I and our colleagues were very interested in their reports because they were reading them from slides. Prof. H.M.Zarbaliyev demonstrated with facts that those who spoke the language, missing morpheme and word parts on the basis of materials of different languages, just save. Associate professor J.M.Babayev attracted the participants of the conference to the theoretical works of Azerbaijani linguistics by speaking about the theory of twinning in the turkish languages.

I would like to note that our employees, especially me and prof.H.Zarbaliyev showed great interest in the conference, asked a lot of questions about the topics discussed and made clear analysis, that it was pleasant for the conference participants. After the conference, our employees traveled to the magnificent Altai region. Doctor of philological sciences, professor Fakhraddin Veysalli.
