Mahatma – Great soul of XX century

On October 9 2009 there was held a seminar-ceremony on topic “Relevance of Gandhian Ideals in Today’s World” dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the great Indian public figure. Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), Member of Parliament and Chairman of Azerbaijani Delegation at the PA CE Prof. Samad Seyidov, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of India to Azerbaijan Debnad Shaw, attaché of Indian Embassy, vise-rector of AUL on education prf. Natig Yusifov, vice-rector on international relations, assistant professor Jale Garibova and teacher-student staff of the faculty of international relations took part in the ceremony.
Opening the ceremony prf. Samed Seyidov said that Azerbaijan-India relations are increasing. This development shows its results also on the educational area. S. Seyidov went on saying about the great work done on studying the Indian language and culture at Azerbaijan Un iversity of Languages. As a consequence of this work a center of Indian language and culture will be opened at AUL soon.
In his turn Indian ambassador expressed his gratitude to the administration of University for the conditions organized by them. Speaking of M. Gandhi’s 140th anniversary he also mentioned that it’s approbatory to observe this event in Azerbaijan. He also emphasized that M. Gandhi was a valuable person both for India and the whole world: “Mahatma Gandhi was a supporter of non-violence method on solving conflicts and he was a person who had attained great achievements in this field”.
The ceremony was followed by displaying the film “Mahatma – Great soul of XX century”. The film dealt with the life and activity of Mahatma Gandhi. After the film ambassador Debnad Shaw demonstrated PowerPoint presentation which contained quotations by M. Gandhi.
At last the ambassador answered the students’ questions they were interested.
