About the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT)

TKT is a new test run by Cambridge ESOL for teachers of English to speakers of other languages.
TKT is suitable for all teachers, whatever your background and teaching experience. It is intended for both those who have no teaching experience and for people with some experience but no formal qualification.
It is designed to be of use to teachers of primary, secondary and adult learners.

TKT syllabus

The test, and our preparation course, are comprised of the following three modules:
Module 1: Language and background to language learning and teaching

• Describing language and language skills
• Background to language learning
• Background to language teaching

Module 2: Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching

• Planning and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons
• Selection and use of resources and materials

Module 3: Managing the teaching and learning process

• Teachers' and learners' language in the classroom
• Classroom management

Duration

The course is designed around 72hours of study.
