Academician Kamal Abdulla, Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, Met Anne Johns, who is in Charge of the Regional American Centres of the State Department of the USA


On April 9, 2019, Academician Kamal Abdulla, rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, met Anne Johns, who is in charge of the regional American centres of the State Department of the USA. The rector said that the American Centre of Azerbaijan University of Languages is one of the main centres of the American centres as a centre of language and culture and it has been functioning at the University for 18 years. He noted that the Centre combines teaching English and research; it is open for everyone, who is interested in the language, culture, literature of the country.

The rector said that if these centres help the opening of the Azerbaijani language and culture at the universities of their own countries, it will contribute to strengthening interstate relations. He also mentioned that he was proud of that Azerbaijan is among the friendly countries of the United States.  He said that the students very easily assimilated the American style. He attached attention to such a fact that the staff and students of the University use the rich library and internet base of the Centre, other interested persons make an efficient use of them.

Anne Johns, in Charge of the Regional American Centres of the State Department of the USA, thanked for the long-tern partnership.  She said that there are over 600 American centres in the world. She mentioned that she felt energy and activeness in the Centre and it was noteworthy. To talk, to hold discussions, to listen to music together are the beginning moments of peace. She said that the purpose of the American centre is to contribute to the rapprochement of peoples. She thanked the rector of the University for contributing to the realization of the said intention of the Centre. They discussed the issues of cooperation in the sphere of multiculturalism, development of joint projects, the perspectives of cooperation in the coming years and others.

The guests got interested in the activity of the American Centre, staff potentials, difficulties and shortcomings. They took part in the activities organized by the centre.

The meeting was also participated by Heidi Smith, advisor of the Embassy on culture and education. Aydan Askerova, public relations officer, in charge of the American Centre, associate-professor Sevinj Zeynalova, vice-rector on researches, Fiala Abdullayeva, head of the Centre of Language and Culture, chief of the Department of Foreign Relations, Shahla Khudiyeva, director of the American Centre.
